Quick tips for UK households
Compare thrifty vs moderate tiers before you shop — small changes in brand mix move the total.
Count meals eaten outside the home; they reduce how much you need to spend on groceries at home.
Delivery and pickup can change what you spend compared with shopping in store.
Plan a weekly shop around Halalo hot offers and multi-buy deals.
Favour value brands and larger packs for pantry staples when it makes sense for your family.
Check halal-certified ranges for meat, poultry and everyday essentials from trusted sellers.
Frequently asked questions
How is this estimate calculated?
We combine age-band food cost rates for your region with your household size, shopper tier and fulfilment choice. Meals eaten outside the home reduce the at-home grocery portion of the estimate. The result is shown as a weekly cost and a monthly cost (weekly × 4.33).
What data is this based on?
Figures are calibrated for UK household food costs, using public statistical sources on average spend and dietary patterns (for example Office for National Statistics household expenditure and related UK food-cost research). Rates are reviewed periodically and are not live supermarket prices.
Is this financial advice?
No. The calculator is an estimate only to help you plan. It is not personalised financial, dietary or benefits advice. Your actual spend will depend on brands, promotions, store choice and what you put in the trolley.
Why might my total differ from other calculators?
Many online tools use US-centric or generic USD food plans. Ours is built for Halalo shoppers in the UK and focuses on typical grocery baskets — including how thrifty vs generous shopping and delivery vs in-store can affect the total — rather than Instant-Cart or USDA dollar tables.
Can I use this outside the UK?
Budget tables are storefront-scoped. If data is not yet available for your storefront, the calculator will say so. Where tables exist, methodology still reflects regional average food costs for that market.
